The Penn Jersey Platelet/Neutrophil Serology Laboratory and National Reference Laboratory for Platelet Serology offers serologic testing for antibody identification, platelet crossmatching, and platelet antigen typing to aid in the clinical diagnosis of:
- Neonatal Alloimmune Thrombocytopenia
- Post Transfusion Purpura
- Autoimmune Thrombocytopenia
- Heparin and Drug- induced Thrombocytopenia
- Platelet Refractoriness
Testing Methods include:
- Solid Phase Red Cell Adherence
- Platelet Suspension Immunofluorescence
- ELISA techniques (GTI PF4) and Platelet Antibody Identification)
Samples:
- Label with:
- Patient’s first and last name
- Date of collection
- Identification number if known (hospital ID, date of birth or other unique identification number)
- Tubes containing serum separation media are not acceptable
- Plastic collection tubes not listed by manufacturer as approved for use in blood bank testing should not be submitted
- Store samples at room temperature.
- Ship via overnight courier or Red Cross transportation.

This laboratory can coordinate testing through our Penn-Jersey HLA Laboratory and Molecular Blood Group and Platelet Testing Laboratory for further investigation. Medical Consultation is available as needed.
